Dear DGS Families,
Our first semester has ended, and we begin semester two tomorrow. As a reminder, report cards were released yesterday (January 30), they are available for viewing in your MyCBE account. Report cards are best viewed by logging into the MyCBE portal and not through the PowerSchool App.
On Friday February 9, MADD Canada will be at DGS to deliver a presentation to the Grade 8 and 9 students on the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. For more information, please read the attachment provided by MADD Canada.

InterSchool Athletics Expectations Reminder
DGS Students:
-
DGS students will be able to view the first home game (4:30pm start) without parent/guardian supervision. Students are to remain in the main gym watching the game.
-
Once the first game is complete, school administration will help all DGS students without a parent/guardian leave the building.
-
DGS students will need to be directly supervised by a parent/guardian if they would like to stay and/or return at any point after the first game is complete.
-
DGS students are expected to be in the main gym watching the game(s) and supporting all players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner. Any student who is not meeting the CBE Student Code of Conduct will be escorted out of the gym and school and may lose future viewing privileges.
-
Please note that DGS students should not attend games at any other school without a parent present.
Students From Other Schools:
-
Will not be admitted into the school, for any game(s), unless accompanied by a parent/guardian who stays for the duration of the time the student is in the building.
-
Once teams from other schools have completed their games for the evening, all players must exit the building, unless accompanied by a parent/guardian who stays for the duration of the time the student is in the building.
-
Student athletes who arrive before their coaches will be asked to wait at the tables in the main hall until their coach arrives.
All Parents and Guardians:
-
All parents/guardians are welcome to attend all games at DGS.
-
Parents/guardians who bring family members under the age of 18 are expected to supervise their child(ren) in the main gym.
-
All parents/guardians are expected to cheer/support all payers/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner.
-
If parents/guardians are engaging in any inappropriate behaviour directed towards players/coaches/referees/other parents/guardians/school staff or school administration, the game will be paused and the parent/guardian will be asked to stop. If the inappropriate behaviour continues, the game will be stopped again and will not re-start until the parent/guardian leaves the gym and school property. If removed, the parent/guardian may lose future viewing privileges at DGS.
Our main goal is to provide a safe and fun opportunity for students.
-
The players are kids.
-
The coaches are volunteers.
-
The referees are human.
Hot Chocolate Fundraiser
This year’s Hot Chocolate Fundraiser will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday February 14. At the start of February, Grade 9 Leadership Students will decide which charity fundraising proceeds will go to. Donations will be “pay what you can” with the recommended donation for each student’s cup of hot chocolate being a toonie. More details will follow closer to the event.
Parent Engagement Evening
Our school greatly benefits from its vibrant parent community. In recent years, the Government of Alberta has provided a $500 grant for each School Council to create a parent engagement opportunity. This year, DGS School Council will be hosting “Paint Afternoon” from 5-7 pm on Tuesday February 27. This event will be immediately followed by our regularly scheduled School Council and Parent Fundraising Society Meetings. There is no cost for this event. Participants will leave with their very own masterpiece to proudly display as a testament to all the reasons making art is so good for you. No experience is required, and all materials are provided. Watch your email for registration information.
Peter Pan Jr.
Mark your calendars- March 14, 2024, sees Peter Pan flying on to our mainstage for Peter Pan Jr. Tickets will be sold at the door for this evening performance. In conjunction with the performance, our Musical Team will be holding a silent auction. In order to better promote this event’s fundraiser, the Silent Auction will now be held the evening of the musical. Information concerning donations and volunteer opportunities will be sent home in the days to come.
