Dear DGS Families,
As we approach the final two weeks before the winter break, our school is buzzing with excitement. There will be a number of community-building activities for students and staff, and I am especially looking forward to the upcoming staff-versus-students basketball games over the next two Fridays.
We will also have an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary fundraising efforts our community has made in support of cancer research—an achievement we can all be proud of. In preparation for the break, we will be conducting a locker cleanout soon. We would appreciate your support in reminding students to begin taking items home, particularly food containers.
We also want to wish our wrestlers the very best of luck as they compete in the divisional meet on Tuesday, December 9. Our athletes have been working hard, and we are proud of their dedication, sportsmanship, and commitment. We look forward to cheering them on as they represent DGS.
Our Student Well-Being Team will be attending the Middle School Wellbeing Symposium on Tuesday December 9 at MRU, where they will collaborate with other middle school students to develop actions that that support welcoming schools and a strong sense of belonging.
On December 8, we recognize Bodhi Day, an important day for many Buddhist families in our community. Bodhi Day commemorates the moment Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, marking the beginning of his journey as the Buddha. For those who observe, it is often a time of reflection, meditation, and expressions of kindness and compassion. To all families celebrating Bodhi Day, we extend our warmest wishes for a peaceful and meaningful observance.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
Warm regards,
Chris Keuben

Reporting a Student Absence
When reporting a student absence, we ask that families email drgeorgestanley@cbe.ab.ca whenever possible. Please include your child’s first and last name, the reason for the absence, and the name of your child’s homeroom teacher.
If you are unable to email, you may call the school and leave a voicemail. However, we kindly ask that you prioritize email, as it is the most efficient and accurate way for our office staff to record absences. This helps improve the timeliness of attendance notifications sent to families.
If you must leave a phone message, please speak slowly and clearly spell out your child’s first and last name, and include the reason for the absence and your child’s homeroom teacher’s name.
Thank you for helping us maintain accurate and timely attendance records.

Grade 8 Leadership
The Grade 8 Leadership class is organizing a donation drive for Toy Mountain. We invite all students at DGS to bring in donations of new, unwrapped toys, games, puzzles or gift cards. These will be distributed to children throughout the city in hopes of making their holiday season brighter. Donations can be placed under the tree in the front foyer of the school now until December 18.
Also, Candy Cane Grams are back this year! On sale during lunch time next week, students can purchase a candy cane and send it to any student in the school.
