Dear DGS Families,

We were happy to see our students this week and see their energy and enthusiasm as they returned to school. Our focus continues to be on supporting students as they transition back to school life, helping them settle into routines, reconnect with peers, and engage fully in learning.

Earlier this month, on October 20, 2025, many families celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights. This holiday marks the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, often observed with family gatherings, lights, and festive traditions. We hope that all students and families who celebrated had a joyful and meaningful Diwali.

This morning, there was a second student-planned walkout involving students in Grades 7–9. We want to reiterate that these walkouts are not CBE events. As always, students are expected to attend classes during regular instructional time unless excused by a parent or guardian. Student learning continued as scheduled, and any students not in class are recorded as having an unexcused absence.

While we recognize that engaging in public discourse is an important way to practice responsible and active citizenship in a free and democratic society, our teachers are eager to re-establish a sense of normalcy, attending to students’ academic and well-being needs, and ensuring that programs of study are attended to. Staff have spoken with students about the importance of remaining in class during instructional time. We encourage you to have a similar conversation with your children and reinforce the importance of attending class. For students who wish to be involved in current social or civic issues, there are meaningful ways to do so outside of school hours, such as writing letters or emails, or participating in demonstrations outside of school time.

Respectfully,

Chris Keuben

Principal

Halloween

October 31 students are welcome to come to school wearing their costumes, donning an orange and black outfit, wearing their pajamas, or come dressed in their regular clothing.  There are some parameters around costumes we would like students and parents to follow:

  • Avoid excessive gore
  • Weapons of any kind are not permitted
  • No masks
  • Please use discretion when choosing attire, remembering the school environment includes students with varying sensitivities
  • Ensure costumes are bathroom friendly and easy to get into and out of
  • Ensure costumes allow for safe and easy movement at school and will not interfere with your child's ability to participate in regular class work and in gym class.

Remembrance Day

Our Remembrance Day assembly is scheduled for Friday, November 7. Grades 5–7 will gather at 9:45 a.m., and grades 8–9 at 10:45 a.m. Parents and community members are warmly invited to attend and join us in honoring the contributions and sacrifices of those who have served.
