Dear DGS Families
We’re back after a long weekend of spending time with the people we love.
Soft Entry
In anticipation of colder weather, we want to make sure everyone has the same information around soft entry, lunchtime, etc. Soft Entry starts at 8:00. We do not open the doors before this time, even in inclement weather, as this is a full half hour before classes begin. As of 8:00, teachers are on supervision inside and outside of the building. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather, as students who arrive before 8:00 will be waiting outside. If the temperatures drop below -20, students have the option to stay inside at lunch. We do provide outdoor supervision at lunchtime for students who are committed to being polar bears.
Course Fees and Lunch Supervision Registration
Each Fall, we begin the process of loading individual course fees for Complementary Classes Grades 7-9. This process does take time. We anticipate that in the next few weeks that the courses that have fees associated with them have been added to your account; fees are due when assigned. Also please note: all grade 5 and 6 students that stay at school for lunch must be registered to do so.
Fees and registration can be found on your MyCBE account.
Bikes, Skateboards and Scooters
We love that our students are still walking, biking, skateboarding or scootering their way to school. Bikes, skateboards and scooters MUST be stored using our outside racks (NOT in student lockers)- we do not have the room to store these in lockers, classrooms or main office. All items must be secured with a lock to the racks. Our skateboard and scooter racks work best with a padlock OR a bike lock wound through enough times to take out all of the slack. DGS cannot be responsible for lost or stolen bikes, scooters or skateboards. We recommend that all bikes be registered with Bike Index. Calgary Police Service partners with Bike Index to return lost and stolen bikes. https://www.calgary.ca/cps/public-services/bike-index.html
SALTS Info Night
Parents of interested Grade 9 students are invited to learn more about our May 2025 Grade 9 Sailing Adventure. If you would like more information about this trip, we will be hosting an in-person informational session on Thursday, October 17 from 6:30 - 7:30pm in the Learning Commons. Trip application packages will be available at the session, OR can be picked up from the main office starting Friday October 18, 2024. For more information about the SALTS Programs and their philosophy, please visit www.salts.ca
Pets of DGS - Calendar Pre-Sales
We want to thank the 40+ families who participated in our Pets of DGS Calendar Photo Shoot. We loved meeting your furry (and scaly, and hard-shelled) friends, and the behind-the-scenes and out-takes pictures are filled with a lot of laughter and joy. Our students were fully immersed in the tasks of set design, event hosting, logistics, marketing, and pet photography. A link to the edited photos will be sent to the email address you provided on photoshoot night, likely just after Nov 1. Pre-order directions for calendars will drop shortly. BUT WAIT- there’s more! A Special Edition Calendar entitled “DGS- Teacher’s Pets” is also in the works! All proceeds from all calendar sales go to our Parent Fundraising Society- our Fundraising Society provides us with valuable resources for enrichment activities in support of our school goal of fostering belonging for ALL students.

Lost & Found
Please encourage your child(ren) to check the Lost & Found this week for any forgotten belongings, there is a high number of items that have accumulated there.
