Dear DGS families,
As we move into another busy June week, we were very happy to see the end of the heavy rainfall we had been experiencing over the past few days and for our Track and Field Meet to proceed as planned yesterday. Our students represented our school exceptionally well—not only through their effort and participation, but through the outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship they demonstrated throughout the day. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, cheering each other on, celebrating successes, and supporting classmates through every event. Their collective effort and school spirit contributed to an outstanding result, as our school proudly earned a 1st-place finish overall at the meet. Thank you to our staff, volunteers, and families who helped make the day such a positive and memorable experience for everyone involved.
Next week, our Grade 7 students head off to camp, and we would like to wish them the very best as they embark on this exciting adventure. Outdoor education experiences create memories that last a lifetime, whether it’s hiking trails, trying new activities, or simply spending time together in the fresh air and beautiful surroundings. We hope students embrace every opportunity, challenge themselves to try new things, and enjoy all the fun and learning that comes with being outdoors together.
We would also like to wish our Grade 6 and Grade 9 students the very best as Provincial Achievement Tests resume in earnest. We know students have been working hard in preparation, and we encourage them to do their best, stay confident, and remember that effort and perseverance matter. We are proud of all of their hard work and dedication.
Finally, thank you to all of the parent volunteers who have supported our school throughout Provincial Achievement Testing so far this year. Your time, flexibility, and willingness to help are greatly appreciated and play an important role in ensuring our testing days run smoothly for students and staff. We are still looking for a few additional volunteers and sincerely appreciate parents considering signing up to assist. More information is provided below for anyone interested in helping during the upcoming testing sessions.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our school community. We appreciate all that you do and look forward to the exciting weeks ahead.

Group Chats and Social Media
We encourage families to continue having open, ongoing conversations with their children about social media use and, in particular, group chats. These online spaces can be positive ways for young people to stay connected, but they can also sometimes lead to misunderstandings, exclusion, impulsive comments, or situations that escalate quickly outside of face-to-face interactions. Regular, calm conversations at home about digital citizenship, empathy, privacy, and respectful communication can help students navigate these challenges thoughtfully and responsibly. Approaching these discussions with curiosity and support — rather than judgment — often helps young people feel more comfortable seeking guidance when they need it.
Families looking for helpful resources may find this Canadian Psychological Association’s article on teens and screens to be a useful starting point.
Apply Now for Yellow School Bus Service for 2026-2027
Families are now able to apply for yellow school bus service for the 2026-27 school year. Registration is available through your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how.)
Families must apply by Sunday, June 14, 2026 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 14 deadline will be delayed. It may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus.
2026-2027 Complementary Course Selections
Please remember that complementary course selections for students enrolled in grade 7, 8 and 9 for the 2026-2027 school year are due on June 8. Students must complete the paper course selection form that was sent home with them and submit their course choices in PowerSchool. We appreciate your support in helping students complete this process by the deadline. Please refer to the attached documents if needed.

Grade 9 June Attendance after Provincial Achievement Tests
We strongly encourage students to remain at school for the full day following each Provincial Achievement Test. Afternoons are valuable instructional time where teachers will review material, answer questions, and help students prepare for upcoming exams.
We understand, however, that some families may still choose to sign their child out after the morning exam. To ensure this process is managed efficiently and to prevent a high volume of calls, texts, and emails to the school, please carefully review the following:
- If you intend to sign your child out after a PAT, you must complete the form below. This will serve as your official permission for early departure.
- Phone calls, emails, or text messages will not be accepted for early sign-outs. The form must be completed in advance.
- Absences will be recorded as “Unexcused” in PowerSchool, as early departures for non-medical reasons are not considered excused. However, if you complete the form, you will not receive an attendance call.
- The form must be submitted by June 5.
- If your child will be staying at school for the full day after each exam, no action is needed. Please do not fill out the form.
Thank you for supporting your child’s learning and helping us minimize classroom disruption and extra workload on office staff during this important assessment period. Here is the form: Important Information About Provincial Achievement Test (PAT) Afternoon Attendance – Fill out form
Provincial Achievement Test (PAT) VOLUNTEERS needed
Grade 6 & 9 students will be writing their Provincial Achievement Tests in May and June. DGS School will require 6 parent volunteer (with a valid Police Clearance) to help with each exam. These parents will help monitor students and help ensure exams run smoothly for all students. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up.
DGS Casino Fundraiser – Volunteers Needed
DGS School is looking for 40 volunteers to help run our upcoming 2-day Casino Fundraiser on:
- Tuesday, November 17 & Wednesday, November 18, 2026
This Casino is our school’s largest fundraising opportunity and only comes around once every two years. Over the course of just two days, we have the potential to raise more than $80,000 to support our students and school programs.
Every volunteer shift makes a huge difference — for every 8-hour shift filled, our school earns approximately $2,000. No other fundraiser comes close to this level of impact.
Unfortunately, if we are unable to fill all volunteer positions, we risk losing this recurring opportunity and could be removed from the Casino rotation list for close to a decade.
The earlier you sign up, the more flexibility you will have in choosing shifts that work best for your schedule. Both day and night shifts are available.

Thank you for supporting DGS School and helping make this important fundraiser a success!
