Stay Informed

Dear DGS Families,

Tomorrow, our Grade 8 and 9 students will have an opportunity to learn more about cyber safety through an in-person presentation delivered by the Calgary Police Service. Next week, our Grade 6 and 7 students will participate in a similar presentation tailored to their age group and developmental needs. In addition, our Grade 5 teachers are preparing learning experiences that focus on online safety and digital citizenship in age-appropriate ways for their students. As technology continues to play an important role in our lives, helping students develop the knowledge and skills to navigate online spaces safely is essential. We encourage parents and guardians to continue these conversations at home by discussing what their children have learned and exploring strategies for staying safe online.

As a school, we acknowledge and support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action. Our commitment to this important work is reflected in both our learning and our actions. We invite families to learn more by viewing our school’s commitment statement on our website by clicking here.

As we head into the Thanksgiving weekend, I would like to thank our students, staff, and families for their ongoing support, partnership, and positive contributions to our school community. I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with opportunities to relax, reflect, and enjoy time with family and friends.

Annual Authorization Forms – Student Survey

Student voice matters! Throughout the school year, CBE students are invited to share their experiences through surveys about learning, well-being, belonging, and school life. Their feedback helps us understand what is going well and where we can make improvements to better support our students. If you have not yet completed your child’s Annual Authorization Forms in SchoolEngage, please do so by October 13. These forms include your consent preferences for participation in CBE student surveys. The upcoming survey will take place October 14–23. A separate email will be shared with families with more detailed information about the upcoming CBE Student Wellbeing Survey and student participation.

Student Safety Reminder

As we continue to focus on student safety, we encourage families to take a few moments to review safe travel habits with their children. Simple practices, such as looking both ways before crossing the street, crossing only at designated crosswalks, and walking bikes and scooters through intersections, help keep everyone safe. We have been reinforcing this with students at school, and hearing the same message at home can make an important difference. Developing good safety habits now helps ensure students make safe choices every day.

Dr. George Stanley School Athletics Spectator Policy

DGS shares a common spectator policy with all schools within our middle school athletics (CMLSAA) division.

Dr. George Stanley School will be maintaining these spectator expectations and conditional attendance policies for spectators to support a positive and safe environment for our student athletes.

DGS Students:

  • DGS students will be able to view the first home game (4:30 PM start) without parent/guardian supervision.
  • Once the first game is complete, school administration will assist in ensuring all DGS students without a parent/guardian leave the building.
  • DGS students will need to be directly supervised by a parent/guardian if they would like to stay and/or return at any point after the first game is complete. Parents / guardians cannot assume responsibility for large groups of students.
  • While in attendance, DGS students are expected to be in the gym watching the game(s) and supporting all players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner. Any student who is not meeting the CBE Student Code of Conduct will be escorted out of the gym and school and may lose future viewing privileges.

Parents / Guardians:

  • All parents/guardians are welcome to attend all games at Dr. George Stanley School.
  • Parents/guardians who bring family members under the age of 18 are expected to supervise their child(ren) in the main gym.
  • All parents/guardians are expected to cheer/support all players / coaches / referees / parents / guardians in a positive manner.
  • If parents/guardians are engaging in any inappropriate behaviour directed towards players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians, the game will be paused and the parent/guardian will be asked to stop. If the inappropriate behaviour continues, the game will be stopped again and will not re-start until the parent/guardian leaves the gym and school property. If removed, the parent/guardian may lose future viewing privileges at Dr. George Stanley School.
  • Our main goal is to provide a safe and fun opportunity for students.

Please remember:

  • The players are kids.
  •  The coaches are volunteers.
  • The referees are human.
  • There will be no scholarships or professional contracts handed out

Students from other schools (non-players):

  • Students from other schools who are not accompanied by a parent/guardian are not permitted at the visiting school - no exceptions.

The club will run from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. and is open to all Grade 5 and 6 students, regardless of experience level. This is a great opportunity for students to develop their basketball skills, stay active, and have fun with their peers before the school day begins. We thank Mr. Bechthold for organizing this opportunity for our students.

Winter Clothing Drive

Our grade 7 leadership classes are collecting winter outerwear for Jacket Racket until Friday, Nov 6th to help out kids in need. We will be collecting jackets, snow pants, scarves, mittens and boots which are washed and in good condition. These items are meant for kids and teens in kindergarten to grade 12. Please bring the clothes to the main foyer by the office to a decorated box that says “Winter Clothing”. Thank you!

DGS Casino Fundraiser – Volunteers Needed

DGS School is looking for 40 volunteers to help run our upcoming 2-day Casino Fundraiser on:

  • Tuesday, November 17 & Wednesday, November 18, 2026

This Casino is our school’s largest fundraising opportunity and only comes around once every two years. Over the course of just two days, we have the potential to raise more than $80,000 to support our students and school programs.

Every volunteer shift makes a huge difference — for every 8-hour shift filled, our school earns approximately $2,000. No other fundraiser comes close to this level of impact.

Unfortunately, if we are unable to fill all volunteer positions, we risk losing this recurring opportunity and could be removed from the Casino rotation list for close to a decade.

The earlier you sign up, the more flexibility you will have in choosing shifts that work best for your schedule. Both day and night shifts are available.

Casino Location

  • Pure Casino Calgary
  • 1420 Meridian Road NE, Calgary
