Stay Informed

Dear DGS Families,

I want to start by thanking the many parents and guardians who have volunteered their time to support student learning this fall. Thanks to your involvement, students have enjoyed a variety of memorable experiential learning opportunities, including meeting authors at Wordfest, rafting along the Bow River, hiking in the mountains, participating in the Terry Fox Run, and exploring local naturalized areas. These experiences enrich learning, build connections, and would not be possible without the support of our volunteers. Thank you for helping make them happen!

As a reminder, Monday, October 19 is a non-Instruction day. While students enjoy a day away from classes, our teachers and support staff will be trading places and becoming students themselves as they participate in professional learning. This dedicated time allows staff to collaborate, reflect on their practice, and continue learning so they can best support student success. We hope our students enjoy the extra day to recharge, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday.

Finally, School Council and Parent Society meetings will take place on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. Families are warmly encouraged to attend either in person or online. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to learn more about what is happening at our school, share your perspectives, and help shape the experiences of our students. Your voice matters, and whether you are attending for the first time or are a regular participant, we hope you will join us! See the information item below.

Wishing all of our students and families a wonderful and restful long weekend. We look forward to another amazing week of learning ahead.

School Absence Reporting Request

To help us ensure accurate attendance records and improve the efficiency of processing absences before our automated absence notifications are sent to families at 10:15 a.m., we kindly ask that families prioritize emailing us at drgeorgestanley@cbe.ab.ca whenever possible when reporting a student absence.

When emailing, please include the following information:

  • Your name and relationship to the student
  • Student's full name
  • Grade
  • Date(s) of absence
  • Reason for the absence

If you need to use the absence phone line, please be sure to provide all of the information listed above. In addition, we ask that you spell your child's name slowly and clearly to help us accurately record the absence.

School Council and Parent Society

All families are invited to attend the next School Council and Parent Society Meeting on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be offered in a hybrid format, allowing families to participate either in person in the Dr. George Stanley Learning Commons or online via Microsoft Teams. School Council and Parent Society provide important opportunities to stay informed, share your perspectives, and support the ongoing success of our school community. We hope you will join us, as your voice matters and helps shape the experiences of our students.

Winter Clothing Drive

Our grade 7 leadership classes are collecting winter outerwear for Jacket Racket until Friday, Nov 6th to help kids in need. We will be collecting jackets, snow pants, scarves, mittens, and boots which are washed and in good condition. These items are meant for kids and teens in kindergarten to grade 12. Please bring the clothes to the main foyer by the office to a decorated box that says “Winter Clothing”. Thank you!

DGS Casino Fundraiser – Volunteers Needed

DGS School is looking for 40 volunteers to help run our upcoming 2-day Casino Fundraiser on:

Tuesday, November 17 & Wednesday, November 18, 2026

This Casino is our school’s largest fundraising opportunity and only comes around once every two years. Over the course of just two days, we have the potential to raise more than $80,000 to support our students and school programs.

Every volunteer shift makes a huge difference — for every 8-hour shift filled, our school earns approximately $2,000. No other fundraiser comes close to this level of impact.

Unfortunately, if we are unable to fill all volunteer positions, we risk losing this recurring opportunity and could be removed from the Casino rotation list for close to a decade.

The earlier you sign up, the more flexibility you will have in choosing shifts that work best for your schedule. Both day and night shifts are available.

Thank you for supporting DGS School and helping make this important fundraiser a success!

Healthy Hunger Lunches

Account registration, meal selections and electronic payment are all to be completed by families on the Healthy Hunger website.

Orders are required 5 days before the lunch date.

Need to cancel an order? That is possible on your Healthy Hunger account, prior to the cut-off. Please see their website for further information on the program. If your child is absent on the day of an order, you may contact the school office to make alternative arrangements (examples: parent pick-up, donation, etc.).

Orders will only be held until 1:00pm the following school day.
