Dear DGS Families,
This week, our school community engaged in meaningful learning and reflection in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. I would like to sincerely thank our staff and students for the thoughtful and respectful ways they approached this important work. I was deeply impressed by the many ways they took up this learning through circle discussions, readings, current events, the examination of historical documents, and, in many cases, learning on and from the land. These experiences have helped to deepen students' understanding. It was inspiring to see our students engage with curiosity, empathy, and a genuine willingness to learn and reflect.
As we turn our attention to athletics, excitement is building as the basketball season tips off tomorrow. Our Senior Boys team will begin with exhibition games on Friday and Saturday at DGS, followed by the start of regular season play on Monday. We look forward to cheering on all of our student-athletes as they represent our school.
We also look forward to having students and their families attend basketball games. As a reminder, DGS shares a common spectator policy with all schools in our middle school athletics division (CMLSAA). This policy can be found in the information items below. As important partners in supporting positive school communities, we ask all caregivers to review the spectator expectations with their children. Working together helps ensure that our games remain safe, respectful, and enjoyable experiences for athletes, officials, coaches, and spectators alike.
Parent information meetings are happening this upcoming week for our grade 8 Eastern Canada Trip and for our grade 9 sailing trip on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. These sessions will provide parents and students with an opportunity to learn more about the trips, review important details, and ask questions as we prepare for these memorable experiences. We are grateful to our staff for organizing these opportunities that help bring learning to life beyond the classroom.
Thank you for your continued support, and I wish everyone a wonderful weekend.

Dr. George Stanley School Athletics Spectator Policy
DGS shares a common spectator policy with all schools within our middle school athletics (CMLSAA) division.
Dr. George Stanley School will be maintaining these spectator expectations and conditional attendance policies for spectators to support a positive and safe environment for our student athletes.
DGS Students:
- DGS students will be able to view the first home game (4:30 PM start) without parent/guardian supervision.
- Once the first game is complete, school administration will assist in ensuring all DGS students without a parent/guardian leave the building.
- DGS students will need to be directly supervised by a parent/guardian if they would like to stay and/or return at any point after the first game is complete. Parents / guardians cannot assume responsibility for large groups of students.
- While in attendance, DGS students are expected to be in the gym watching the game(s) and supporting all players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner. Any student who is not meeting the CBE Student Code of Conduct will be escorted out of the gym and school and may lose future viewing privileges.
Parents / Guardians:
- All parents/guardians are welcome to attend all games at Dr. George Stanley School.
- Parents/guardians who bring family members under the age of 18 are expected to supervise their child(ren) in the main gym.
- All parents/guardians are expected to cheer/support all players / coaches / referees / parents / guardians in a positive manner.
- If parents/guardians are engaging in any inappropriate behaviour directed towards players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians, the game will be paused and the parent/guardian will be asked to stop. If the inappropriate behaviour continues, the game will be stopped again and will not re-start until the parent/guardian leaves the gym and school property. If removed, the parent/guardian may lose future viewing privileges at Dr. George Stanley School.
- Our main goal is to provide a safe and fun opportunity for students.
Please remember:
- The players are kids.
- The coaches are volunteers.
- The referees are human.
- There will be no scholarships or professional contracts handed out
Students from other schools (non-players):
