Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

Due to continued enrolment growth at Dr. George Stanley School, the school has reached its capacity.

Effective immediately, all new Grade 5-9 registrations for students living in the community Seton, who cannot be accommodated at Dr. George Stanley School, are designated to McKenzie Highlands School. This includes new registrations currently in SchoolEngage.

  • McKenzie Highlands is in the community of McKenzie Towne located at 25 McKenzie Towne Dr SE Calgary.

All Grade 5 to Grade 9 students attending the overflow school, McKenzie Highlands School, will be placed on a call-back list and offered a place at Dr. George Stanley School if space becomes available.

No changes for current students attending Dr. George Stanley School.

Students who are currently attending or accepted to attend Dr. George Stanley School for the 2025-26 school year will remain at the school until they transition to high school, provided they do not move out of the community.

Why is this change happening?

Growing enrolment has caused Dr. George Stanley School to reach its capacity, and an overflow must be in place to ensure the learning environment is not adversely impacted.

Lottery Process for the 2026-2027 school year.

The lottery process will be followed for Grade 5 for the 2026-27 school year and beyond for Seton students only.

  • The number of spaces at Dr. George Stanley School for students from Seton entering Grade 5 for the 2026-2027 school year will be limited.
  • Space will be maintained at Dr. George Stanley School for students from Sibylla Kiddle School who live in the community of Cranston entering in Grade 6.
  • All Seton community students attending Cranston School, McKenzie Lake School, and the new overflow of McKenzie Towne School will be included in the lottery.

For more details on how we determine priority, please visit our website.

The CBE strives to provide options to keep siblings together at a single school. Families with a Grade 4 student who are unsuccessful in the lottery, whose sibling is attending Dr. George Stanley School for the 2026-27 school year, may choose to register all children at McKenzie Highlands School.

What is a call-back list?

If space at Dr. George Stanley School becomes available during the school year, it will be offered to students on the call-back list who are attending their designated overflow school, McKenzie Highlands School.

Students remain on the call-back list while they attend the designated overflow school. Students will be removed from the call-back list if they move out of the Dr. George Stanley School boundary, transfer from their designated overflow school, or decline a call-back to Dr. George Stanley School. Any new registrations received for the 2025-26 will be added to the call-back list based on priority designation and the date and time of their registration.

Can modular classrooms (“portables”) be added to Dr. George Stanley School? No, the Dr. George Stanley School site is unable to accommodate additional modular classrooms.

How do I register for school next year?

Any new registrations from students in the Seton community must still register for Dr. George Stanley School through SchoolEngage. Once these registrations have been received, if they cannot be accommodated at Dr. George Stanley, student information is transferred to their newly designated overflow school, McKenzie Highlands School. The student will be added to the call-back list based on priority. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.

Registrations for the 2026-27 school year starts in January 2026. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.

How will students get to school?

Students are eligible for transportation to their designated school if they live beyond the walk zone. Visit Busing & Transportation for more information. Modes of transportation for middle and junior high school students can include yellow school bus or Calgary Transit. Service levels and fees for the 2026-27 school year will be

confirmed by May 2026.
