Notice Regarding Grade Configuration Change at Dr. George Stanley School

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

To balance enrolment between schools in southeast Calgary, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) will be implementing a grade configuration change at Dr. George Stanley School. This change will help balance enrolment between Cranston and Dr. George Stanley Schools, allowing more students to attend school closer to home.

Effective for the 2024-25 school year and beyond, the following changes will be implemented:

  • Dr. George Stanley School will change from a Grade 6 to 9 to a Grade 5 to 9 configuration beginning in the 2024-25 school year.
  • These changes align with grade configuration changes being implemented at Cranston School. Cranston School will change from a kindergarten to Grade 5 to a kindergarten to Grade 4 configuration for the 2024-25 school year and beyond.
  • There are no changes to Sibylla Kiddle School, the other elementary school in the Cranston community.

Why is this change happening?

There has been unanticipated growth in enrolment at Cranston School and there is no additional space to accommodate the growing student enrolment. By making grade configuration changes at Cranston School and Dr. George Stanley School we are balancing the enrolment between the two schools and creating more space to accommodate students in the Cranston community.

How do I register for school next year?

Registration for the 2024-25 school year begins on Jan. 15, 2024. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.

How will students get to school?

Students are eligible for transportation to their designated school if they live beyond the walk zone. Families must visit Busing & Transportation for important information on transportation services. Families must register for transportation if they want to use the service, using MyCBE.

In the CBE and across the city, we are experiencing a school bus driver shortage that may impact the mode of service provided. Please be assured that we are doing everything possible and working with our partners to restore reliability to transportation services.

What if I have more questions?

If you still have questions or require additional information, please contact the Area 5 office at Area5@cbe.ab.ca or 403-777-8412 (extension 0).
