Dear Families,

As you are aware, a teachers’ strike is set to begin on Monday, October 6, unless the situation changes beforehand. We encourage you to stay informed by following your preferred news source, checking your email regularly for updates from the Calgary Board of Education (CBE), and visiting the CBE website for the latest information: CBE Labour Action Updates.

Please note the following important information:

  • Classes: All classes will be cancelled. Please do not send your child to school.
  • Transportation: All CBE transportation services will be cancelled. Do not leave your child at a bus stop.
  • Athletics, Trips, and Extracurricular Activities: All school athletics, trips, and extracurricular activities will be suspended or cancelled.
  • Online CBE Applications and Email Accounts: Access to D2L, Google Classroom, IRIS, CBE email accounts, and other CBE applications will be turned off. Students and teachers will not be able to log in or access these platforms during the strike.
  • School Office: The school office will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the strike. Our support staff team will be available to assist with school-specific questions. You can also reach us by email at drgeorgestanley@cbe.ab.ca.

On a personal note, I would like to thank all the parents who have expressed support recently. Your kind words are truly appreciated. For the benefit of our students—who remain at the centre of our efforts as educators and parents—we all hope for a lasting resolution to the impasse in which we find ourselves. Please take care of yourselves and each other, and I look forward to being back at Dr. George Stanley in the very near future.

Today, we said goodbye to two valued members of our Dr. George Stanley School community.

Dawn Koltusky, one of our dedicated lunchroom supervisors, had her last day with us today. Over the years, Dawn has built strong, positive relationships with students and has been a reliable and caring presence in our school. We wish her all the best as she embarks on a new career outside the CBE.

We are also saying farewell to our library assistant, Leigha McNelly, who has been with DGS since the very beginning. Her incredible organizational skills, attention to detail, and passion for her work have made a lasting impact on our school. Leigha’s contributions have been significant, and she will be greatly missed—these are big shoes to fill! Mrs. McNelly will remain at DGS as we fill her position.

We thank both Dawn and Leigha for their dedication and for helping to make Dr. George Stanley such an amazing and vibrant school community. We wish them every success in the next chapters of their journeys.

Terry Fox Run Update

Healthy Hunger Lunches

If you had lunches ordered for your student for next week - October 6 to October 9 - they have been already been cancelled and Healthy Hunger will issue the credit to your Healthy Hunger account to be used on future orders.
