Dear DGS Families, 

This week’s update is short and sweet! 

Teachers spent the day together on Monday considering important assessment information about students and using this body of evidence to write report cards. There are some important things that we want to bring your attention to: 

Students in Grade 6 are working with the new curriculum in English Language Arts, Math, and Physical Education and Wellness, as prescribed by Alberta Education. There are a number of differences between the new curriculum and the old curriculum that may impact student achievement data in English Language Arts and Math. Teachers have been diligent in terms of entering assignment assessments in PowerSchool since September. We hope that parents have taken the time since September to access this important achievement data. Again, at all other Grade Levels, this assessment data has also been available, however that has not been a change to the Programs of Studies for Grades 7-9. 

At all Grade Levels, teachers are intentional in selecting which outcomes are included in the assessment of report card stems. It’s important to remember that the 4-point indicator scale is not meant to be translated into a Percentage, and that percentages are not provided on assignments or tests. Instead, you should be able to see the specific outcomes that are assessed on the assignment. If this is not readily apparent when reviewing work with your child, please contact their teacher for clarification. 

Yearbooks   

Yearbooks for 2023-24 must be PREPURCHASED prior to February 9, 2024. You will need to self-add the yearbook to your account following these simple steps:   

1. Login to your MyCBE/PowerSchool account, using your username and password   

2. Click the box “Fees, Waivers & Service Registration”    

3. Select your student   

4. Click on “School Based Optional Fees”   

5. Click on the box “Yearbook 2023/24”   

6. Click “Add to Cart” and proceed to payment

• Evening session for incoming Grade 6 students 

Friday February 9, 2024 

• Deadline for ordering a Yearbook
