Dear DGS families

I would like to begin by congratulating everyone involved in this year’s school play, The Enchanted Bookshop. From the talented student actors who brought the story to life on stage, to the dedicated students working tirelessly behind the scenes, and the teachers who guided and supported the production- your hard work, creativity, and teamwork made this a truly memorable event for our school community and for students who attended from our feeder schools. It was wonderful to see our students shine in so many different roles and showcase their talents. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the production such a success and thank you to our families for their ongoing support!

This April, we proudly recognize Sikh Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the vibrant culture, rich history, and meaningful contributions of Sikh Canadians to our community and country. The values of equality, selflessness, openness, and compassion are the core principles of Sikhism- values that we proudly share and uphold here at Dr. George Stanley School. Sikh Heritage Month provides an opportunity to learn about the traditions, values, and stories that continue to shape our collective identity. Throughout the month, we encourage everyone to take time to explore, acknowledge, and appreciate the positive impact of Sikh Canadians, both past and present.

As we head into the weekend, we want to take a moment to wish a very Happy Easter to all those in our school community who will be celebrating. May this time be filled with joy, connection, and meaningful moments with family and friends. A reminder to families that Monday, April 21 is a system professional learning day for teachers and support staff, and as a result, there will be no classes for students. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and restful long weekend, and we look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday, April 22.

Save the Date – UPDATED: DATE CHANGE

We are writing to inform you of a change to the date of our Grade 9 Farewell celebration. Originally scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2025, the event will now take place on Friday, June 20, 2025.

This change has been made as a result of a recently scheduled citywide flag football tournament on June 6. Due to the complexities of scheduling a date that aligns with the calendars for all schools involved, the date cannot be changed. Several of our Grade 9 students will be participating in this event, and we do not want any student to have to choose between taking part in the tournament and attending their farewell celebration. It’s important to us that all students have the opportunity to fully enjoy this special milestone with their classmates.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we make this adjustment. Further details about the farewell event will be shared with families as we get closer to the date.
