Dear DGS Families

Congratulations to the senior girls’ basketball team who won the division championship. Their skill, dedication and hard work paid off.

Everyone got in the holiday spirit on Monday night when our Grade 9 band performed at the Jubilee Auditorium. Thanks to Ms. Thomas and her talented students.

Pets of DGS Calendar

Keep track of those important days in the upcoming school year with the Pets of DGS calendar! Featuring pets from the DGS student community, this calendar has been photographed, edited and created by the students at DGS, and is a great place to mark those birthdays, anniversaries and other special days in your life. Calendar orders will be available on the Healthy Hunger website starting on Nov 22 and will close on Dec 7. It is listed as a choice on Dec. 13. Get yours now in time for the New Year!

A Teddy Bear Toss is happening at DGS!

We are asking DGS students to bring in new or gently used Teddy Bears to donate to the Women in Need Society. Teachers will be playing against the school basketball teams and the Teddy Bears will be tossed onto the floor after the first basket is scored. Grades 8 & 9 will be on Dec 6 and Grades 5, 6 &7 will be on Dec 13. Thank you for your support in collecting donations for the WINS Society.

Toy Mountain at DGS

The Grade 8 Leadership classes are organizing a donation drive for Toy Mountain. We invite all students at DGS to bring in donations of new, unwrapped toys, games, puzzles or gift cards. These will be distributed to children throughout the city in hopes of making their holiday season brighter. Donations can be placed under the tree in the front foyer of the school from December 9-19.

Purdy’s and Growing Smiles

Thank you for your support of these 2 fundraisers. All money raised is used to support students at DGS. Thanks to the parent volunteers who organized the distribution of the chocolates and plants.

Safety Plan

Today we had a practice lockdown with the Calgary Police Service. It went well.

New Staff

Mrs. Gordon in Grade 5 is on leave until the new year. Her replacement is Monica Swityk. Also taking leave is Mrs. Richardson, she will be away for the remainder of the school year. Her replacement is Chelsea Haddad. Both Monica and Chelsea have subbed in our building, and we are glad to have them join our team.

Parent-Teacher-Student Conference Follow-up

The partnership between our school and families is critical to student success. We had a robust turnout to our conferences with many students engaging in conversations with their parents and teachers. Report cards are rolling out at the end of January. Please keep in touch with your child’s teachers if you have questions, concerns or complements.
