Dear Families
As we approach the final weeks of the school year, we want to extend a sincere thank you to our Grade 6 and Grade 9 students for their focus and effort during the recent Provincial Achievement Tests. We also appreciate the rest of our school community for helping create a calm, focused environment that supported their success. Your encouragement made a difference!
We’re now looking ahead to a fun and energizing event: Sports Day on Tuesday, June 24! Please ensure your child comes prepared to be outside and active - sunscreen, water bottles, hats, activewear, and sneakers are strongly recommended. Most importantly, we invite all students to come ready to laugh, play, and celebrate our amazing school community together.
As we enjoy these final days of June, we also recognize the significance of the season. Na’a (Mother Earth) is awake and Niipo (summer) is near! On June 21, Na’toosi (Grandfather Sun) will reach its highest point in our sky, marking the summer solstice - the longest day of the year. For many Indigenous communities, this is a sacred time of renewal, connection, and ceremony. On Friday, we are taking time as a school to learn in a good way about the meaning and importance of this day for all who live on Treaty 7 land. We hope it brings new insights and fosters deeper understanding and respect.
We’re also very excited to be celebrating our Grade 9 Farewell on Friday, June 20. For families with students in Grade 9, please refer to the important message sent earlier today for important information about this special event.
As a quick reminder, transportation registration for the 2025-26 school year is now open and must be completed by this Sunday, June 22, 2025, via your MyCBE account, if your child is eligible.
Lastly, our tuck shop will close for the year on Thursday, June 19. Please ensure your child brings a lunch that day and for the remainder of the school year. Hot water will also NOT be available, so plan lunches accordingly.
Thank you for your continued support as we wrap up another fantastic year at Dr. George Stanley School.
