Dear DGS Families,

It was wonderful to see so many families and students in the school last week during conferences. These opportunities to connect, celebrate learning, and share in students' growth are always highlights of the year. We have also loved seeing families come out to cheer on our volleyball teams – your presence and encouragement mean a great deal to our students and staff. This strong sense of engagement and connection is what makes our school community so special.

Next week we are excited for another opportunity to gather together as our drama students present their evening performance of Musical – Strumming of a Dream at 6:30 PM on Thursday. We hope many families and students will join us to support the arts and enjoy an entertaining evening. Ticket information will be shared in the Subscribers' Weekly.

We would also like to acknowledge families in our community who celebrated Holi this week. Holi, the vibrant Hindu festival of colours, celebrates the arrival of spring, joy, and the triumph of good over evil. In 2026, Holi was observed on March 4, with Holika Dahan (the traditional bonfire marking the start of the celebration) on March 3. We hope the celebrations were joyful and meaningful for those who marked this special occasion.

As we head into the weekend, a friendly reminder that Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, so clocks will "spring ahead" one hour.

We wish everyone a wonderful week ahead filled with kindness, connection, and the many ways we brighten one another's days.

Warm regards,
Chris Keuben
Principal, Dr. George Stanley School

Assurance Survey

In its ongoing commitment to providing a world-class education for Alberta's children, Alberta Education and Childcare will once again conduct its annual survey of Grade 4, 7, and 10 students and their parents or guardians. This survey will gather essential information about students' and parents' school experiences, helping to drive continuous improvements in our education system. Please note this survey closes tomorrow, March 6, 2026.

Parents or guardians of Grade 7 students should have received an email from School Improvement containing a link to the survey, along with a unique Random-Access Code and detailed instructions. We strongly encourage all eligible parents and guardians to participate and share their feedback. Survey participants will be asked about various topics, including:

  • Creating welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environments
  • Student learning engagement
  • Parental involvement in children's education

If you require a paper survey or one in another language, such as Ukrainian, Punjabi, Cree, Korean, Denesųłįné, Tagalog, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, or Urdu, please reach out to the school via email or phone.

2024–2027 Education Plan Year 2 Check-In Survey

The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) is in the second year of its three-year 2024–2027 Education Plan. This plan was informed by Alberta Education and Childcare expectations, student data, and the perspectives of more than 9,000 CBE community members.

The CBE is conducting a check-in survey from February 23 – March 8 to gather feedback from staff and families to:

  • Understand perspectives on how the 2024–2027 Education Plan has been making progress toward its goals
  • Inform modifications that may be made to the third year of the current plan, prior to full-scale engagement in the 2026–27 school year to inform the next three-year education plan cycle

The Education Plan adjusted for year three will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval in May 2026. Survey results will be shared in early June. You can access the survey here.
