Principal's Message
Dear DGS Families,
It was wonderful to see so many students participating in our Spirit Week activities this week. School spirit helps build a strong sense of belonging and community, and it was great to see students and staff embracing each day's theme with enthusiasm and creativity.
Spirit Week concludes with our Halloween activities on Friday, October 30. If you have not yet reviewed our costume guidelines, please take a moment to read the information below to help ensure a safe and inclusive experience for all students.
We were also pleased to welcome Councillor Mike Jamieson and Trustee Charlene May to Dr. George Stanley School. Their visit provided an excellent opportunity to discuss topics important to our school community, including enrolment pressures, student safety, and future opportunities for collaboration. We appreciate their willingness to listen, learn about our school, and engage in meaningful conversations that support the needs of our students and families.
As always, I encourage families to follow our school on Instagram at @dgs67s. Our social media account is a great way to stay connected with the many learning opportunities, celebrations, events, and accomplishments taking place throughout the year. If you are not already following us, we invite you to join our growing online community and celebrate the great things happening at our school every day.
Have a wonderful weekend! We look forward to another exciting month of learning as we move into November.
Respectfully,
Chris Keuben
Principal
Dr. George Stanley School
Halloween Costume Guidelines
Students are welcome to come to school on Friday, October 30, wearing a costume, an orange and black outfit, pajamas, or their regular clothing.
To ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, please follow these costume guidelines:
- Avoid excessive gore.
- Weapons of any kind are not permitted.
- Masks are not permitted.
- Use discretion when choosing attire, keeping in mind that our school community includes students with varying sensitivities.
- Ensure costumes are bathroom-friendly and easy to put on and remove.
- Choose costumes that allow for safe and easy movement throughout the school.
- Costumes must not interfere with students' ability to participate in regular classroom activities or Physical Education.
Thank you for helping make our Halloween activities enjoyable and safe for everyone.
Working Together as Good Neighbours
We are asking for your support in speaking with your child about the importance of respecting private property and being good neighbours in our community.
We have received requests from nearby residents asking that students not trespass or loiter on private property, including the condominium complex across from the school.
While many students travel through the area before and after school, we ask that they remain on public pathways and sidewalks and respect the privacy of local residents.
Homeroom teachers have reviewed these expectations with students at school, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing this message at home. Consistent reminders from both school and home help students make responsible choices and represent themselves, their families, and our school positively in the community.
Thank you for your partnership in helping our students be positive members of our community. Together, we can continue to foster the values of respect, responsibility, and citizenship that make DGS such a strong school community.
Electric Dirt Bikes and Similar Vehicles
We are asking families to speak with their children about the safe and responsible use of electric dirt bikes, e-motorcycles, and similar throttle-powered vehicles.
According to information shared by the Calgary Police Service and the City of Calgary, electric dirt bikes and e-motorcycles are not permitted on public roads, sidewalks, pathways, parks, or school property. These vehicles are intended for use only on private land with permission.
In addition to safety concerns, we have observed damage to school grounds and adjacent City fields resulting from stunt riding and off-road use.
These fields and green spaces are shared community resources that support school programming, community recreation, and local sports teams. We want to ensure they remain in good condition, accessible, and safe for everyone to enjoy.
Student safety remains our primary concern. Riding these vehicles on school property, pathways, and community green spaces can create hazards for riders, pedestrians, and other community members.
We ask families to reinforce the importance of:
- Following local regulations regarding motorized vehicles.
- Respecting school grounds, public fields, and shared community spaces.
- Making safe and responsible choices when operating motorized vehicles.
Thank you for helping keep our students, school grounds, and community spaces safe and welcoming for all.
