Dear DGS Families,
I would like to congratulate our cross-country runners on an outstanding season. Our students represented our school with pride, determination, and sportsmanship at every meet. Whether they were racing for a personal best, cheering on their teammates, or simply trying to remember which way the course went, they consistently demonstrated what it means to be part of our school community.
We are incredibly proud of their efforts and accomplishments. Thank you as well to our staff and families for supporting our runners throughout the season.
I am also very excited for our Meet the Teacher and 10-Year Anniversary Celebration this evening. This event is a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together, celebrate all that makes our school such a special place, and create new connections among students, families, and staff.
As we reflect on the past ten years, we have much to be proud of. We look forward to welcoming everyone as we celebrate the people, partnerships, and experiences that have helped shape our school into the vibrant community it is today.
Please see the details below.
Orange Shirt Day
On Tuesday, September 29, we will observe Orange Shirt Day.
Throughout the day, students will participate in meaningful and engaging learning experiences designed by their teachers to deepen their understanding of the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools in Canada.
These learning opportunities will encourage reflection, empathy, and a commitment to reconciliation.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Wednesday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. There are no classes on this day.
We encourage families to continue learning and reflection through community events taking place across Calgary.
Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to seeing many of you this evening as we celebrate our school's 10-year milestone together!

Student Safety Reminder
We encourage families to take a few moments to review safe travel practices with their children.
Whether students walk, bike, scoot, take the bus, or are driven to school, it is important that they remain aware of their surroundings and make safe choices.
Some reminders you may wish to discuss at home include:
- Use designated crosswalks and obey traffic signals.
- Look both ways before crossing streets, even when crossing with others.
- Stay alert and avoid distractions such as phones or earbuds while walking near roadways.
- Follow bike and scooter safety rules, including wearing helmets.
- Be respectful of neighbours' property and community spaces.
- Travel with friends when possible and let a trusted adult know your route and expected arrival time.
- Remind children not to approach or share personal information with strangers. If someone makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe, they should move to a safe location and seek help from a trusted adult immediately.
We also ask all drivers to help keep our school community safe by slowing down near the school, following parking and drop-off procedures, and remaining mindful of the many students and families traveling through the area before and after school.
By working together, we can help ensure that all students arrive at and leave school safely each day.
Dr. George Stanley School Athletics Spectator Policy
DGS shares a common spectator policy with all schools within our middle school athletics (CMLSAA) division.
Dr. George Stanley School will be maintaining these spectator expectations and conditional attendance policies for spectators to support a positive and safe environment for our student athletes.
DGS Students
- DGS students will be able to view the first home game, beginning at 4:30 PM, without parent/guardian supervision.
- Once the first game is complete, school administration will assist in ensuring all DGS students without a parent/guardian leave the building.
- DGS students will need to be directly supervised by a parent/guardian if they would like to stay and/or return at any point after the first game is complete. Parents/guardians cannot assume responsibility for large groups of students.
- While in attendance, DGS students are expected to be in the gym watching the games and supporting all players, coaches, referees, parents, and guardians in a positive manner.
- Any student who is not meeting the CBE Student Code of Conduct will be escorted out of the gym and school and may lose future viewing privileges.
Parents and Guardians
- All parents/guardians are welcome to attend all games at Dr. George Stanley School.
- Parents/guardians who bring family members under the age of 18 are expected to supervise their child(ren) in the main gym.
- All parents/guardians are expected to cheer and support all players, coaches, referees, parents, and guardians in a positive manner.
- If parents/guardians engage in inappropriate behaviour directed toward players, coaches, referees, parents, or guardians, the game will be paused and the parent/guardian will be asked to stop.
- If inappropriate behaviour continues, the game will be stopped again and will not restart until the parent/guardian leaves the gym and school property. If removed, the parent/guardian may lose future viewing privileges at Dr. George Stanley School.
- Our main goal is to provide a safe and fun opportunity for students.
Please Remember
- The players are kids.
- The coaches are volunteers.
- The referees are human.
- There will be no scholarships or professional contracts handed out.
Students from Other Schools
Students from other schools who are not accompanied by a parent/guardian are not permitted at the visiting school — no exceptions.
